FEDERAL REAL PROPERTY ASSOCIATION
The effects of human-caused climate change are already far reaching and worsening across every region of the United States. The more the planet warms, the greater the impacts. As extreme events and other climate hazards intensify, there are increasingly harmful impacts on people and critical infrastructure including the portfolio of Federally-owned and leased buildings. Extreme weather incidents and changing trends damage facilities and equipment, disrupt communications networks and transportation routes needed to deliver supplies and services, and increase energy and water costs. Prevention and management of these risks is essential to ensure the Federal mission today and over the service life of Federal investments.
The next session of the Federal Real Property Association will focus on managing climate change risks in Federal Buildings through climate adaptation and resilience measures. The program will explore Federal efforts to safeguard its buildings portfolio from the impacts of extreme heat, extreme precipitation, sea level rise, flooding, wildfire, and other climate related hazards. Panelists will explore how effective management of climate-related risks can ensure that federal investments can continue to perform acceptably and ensure life safety in the face of changing trends and extremes.
